The Ontario Energy Network (OEN) is very pleased to announce that Mr. John Loucks will join the Association in the role of the new President of the OEN, effective April 1, 2017. After a period of transition, John will also assume the title of CEO of the Association.

John has more than 30 years in the energy sector, beginning his career in engineering, conservation and technical service positions, first at the City of Calgary (now ENMAX) and then at Brampton Hydro. Loucks joined Napanee Public Utilities Commission as CEO (General Manager), then assumed the same position with Nanticoke Hydro-Electric Commission. Following that, John joined Brantford Power as Chief Operating Officer.

He served a total of 7 terms on the MEA, MEARIE and EDA boards, twice chairing MEARIE before becoming Chair of EDA in 2009. John also served on numerous Ministry of Energy committees, led an industry delegation that toured energy projects in Denmark, chaired the EDA Conservation & Demand Management Caucus, and chaired the MEARIE subsidiary MMI. John Loucks joined the EDA in 2011 as Vice President, Corporate and Members Affairs, eventually becoming Executive Vice President and serving the association as President and CEO in 2015-2016.

I am thrilled to have John join our Association, and believe he will be a strong and effective leader of the OEN. On behalf of the entire Board of Directors of the OEN, please join me in wishing John all the best in his new position.

What is the Scholarship Program?

The Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) scholarship program has been supporting students for over 21 years. In 2017 EFC is awarding over $150,000 across 57 scholarships to support university and college students in their pursuit for an exciting career in the electrical and electronics industries. Refer to the EFC Scholarship Program brochure for details on the scholarships. To qualify, all applicants must be Canadian citizens who have completed at least their first year of study, have maintained a minimum 75% average and be registered in a full-time eligible post-secondary degree or diploma program at a recognized Canadian university or college. Applicants may apply for a total of three scholarships.

Women in Energy Scholarship - $3,500

The OEN Women In Energy Scholarship will be granted to a female Ontario undergraduate University or College student in either an Engineering or Business program who has completed her first year of study with a minimum cumulative average of 80%, and who has demonstrated a commitment to community service.

Aboriginal Energy Scholarship - $3,500

The OEN Aboriginal Energy Scholarship will be granted to an Ontario Aboriginal undergraduate University or College student who has successfully completed at least one year of study in the Electrical trade, Engineering, IT or Business disciplines, and who has demonstrated a commitment to community service.

Sustainable Development Scholarship - $3500

The OEN Sustainable Development Scholarship will the granted to an Ontario undergraduate university or college student in sustainable development, engineering or electronics with a major focus on sustainable development, or environmental studies, who has completed their first year of study with a minimum cumulative average of 80%, and who has demonstrated leadership and a commitment to community service.
