The Ontario Energy Network is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2025 scholarships. The winners are all very impressive and many of them are headed toward an exciting and rewarding career in the energy sector – quite likely with an OEN member! All of our scholarship recipients have been invited to a future OEN networking event, where we can publicly recognize them for their achievements.
This year’s winner of the Bruce Power sponsored “Dr. Ron Oberth Advanced Energy Studies Scholarship” is Onyekachukwu Nwabueze, a University of Waterloo Masters of Engineering student. Our Women in Energy Scholarship winner, sponsored by the OEB, is Erin Hannah, who is entering the final year of the Electrical Engineering program at Ontario Technical University. The OEN Sustainable Development Scholarship, sponsored by Alectra, has been awarded to Olivia De Simone, who is entering the final year of the Electrical Engineering program at McMaster University. This year we decided to award two scholarships in the IESO-sponsored OEN Indigenous Energy category – scholarships have been awarded to third year Confederation College Engineering Technology student Remington Clark and second year University of Calgary Electrical Engineering student Aiden Dillon. Finally, Shaan Banday, a third year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Waterloo, will receive the OEN-Bruce Power Nuclear Studies Scholarship.
We had many impressive applications in all categories and we wish everyone that applied success in the coming school year.

Onyekachukwu Nwabueze – 2025 OEN-Dr. Ron Oberth Advanced Energy Studies Scholarship (sponsored by Bruce Power)
The recipient of the “Dr. Ron Oberth Advanced Energy Studies Scholarship,” sponsored by Bruce Power and awarded to a student pursuing an advanced degree, is Onyekachukwu Nwabueze. Onyekachukwu came to Canada at the age of 16, later attending the University of Ottawa to Major in Power Engineering through their Bachelor of Electrical Engineering program. Upon graduation, she started a career in the manufacturing sector. With an interest in generation, transmission, distribution, energy regulation and electricity markets, she is now working toward her Masters of Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Onyekachukwu told us that this scholarship will greatly reduce her financial burden as she pursues her Masters degree, and that she hopes to “eventually join a team of people who share her desire to globally impact people through electricity.”

Erin Hannah – 2025 OEN Women in Energy Scholarship (sponsored by the OEB)
The recipient of the 2025 Ontario Energy Network Women in Energy Scholarship, sponsored by the Ontario Energy Board, is Erin Hannah, a fourth year Electrical Engineering student at Ontario Tech University. Erin has worked for OPG as a Generation Support Co-op Student. At OTU she has been an Outreach Instructor for their all-girls team, creating activities to encourage girls to consider STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). Erin has noted IESO forecasts for increasing electricity demand and the exciting opportunities she sees in further electrification of Ontario’s energy sector. Upon being informed of the scholarship, Erin said “I am incredibly thankful for being selected as the recipient of this scholarship. This scholarship will allow me to continue to focus on my studies and give me the opportunity to finish the final year of my degree strong. As many know, the financial demands of post-secondary can be challenging. This generous award significantly eases this burden and I’m truly grateful for the support.”

Aiden Dillon – 2025 OEN Indigenous Energy Scholarship (sponsored by the IESO)
One of our two recipients of the 2025 Ontario Energy Network Indigenous Energy Scholarship, sponsored by the IESO, is Aiden Dillon. Aiden is in the Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering program at the University of Calgary, where he is entering his second year. Hailing from the Belle River area of Southwestern Ontario, he has worked during the summer for Ford Motor Company in Windsor. Aiden is interested in power systems and energy distribution and is excited by the challenge of optimizing energy flow and integrating technologies like solar and wind into existing grids. He says a career in power systems and distribution would allow him to solve meaningful problems that directly impact communities, industry and the future of clean energy.

Remington Clark – 2025 OEN Indigenous Energy Scholarship (sponsored by the IESO)
The second of our two recipients of the 2025 Ontario Energy Network Indigenous Energy Scholarship, sponsored by the IESO, is Remington Clark. A third year Engineering Technology student at Confederation College, Remington is interested in the field of mechatronics and automation. Remington comes from northwestern Ontario and is a member of the Metis Nation of Ontario – Peguis First Nation, Red River Settlement. He has worked during the summer as an employee of Bell Canada. We were impressed when Remington told us that the OEN Indigenous Energy Scholarship will help him focus on his education and will motivate him to give back even more to his community.

Shaan Banday – 2025 OEN-Bruce Power Nuclear Studies Scholarship (sponsored by Bruce Power)
The winner of the 2025 OEN-Bruce Power Nuclear Studies Scholarship is Shaan Banday, a third year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Waterloo. Shaan has worked as a Tooling Engineering Intern and as a Reactor Design Engineering Intern at Bruce Power. Shaan is active in his university North American Young Generation in Nuclear (NAYGN) chapter and was selected as a 2025 Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA) Conference Student Program Laureate. Shaan grew up in the Bruce County area near the Bruce Power generating station, and is very interested in power generation and a career in the nuclear sector.

Olivia De Simone – 2025 OEN Sustainable Development Scholarship (sponsored by Alectra)
Olivia De Simone has been awarded the 2025 Sustainable Development Scholarship, sponsored by Alectra. Olivia has been a Project Management Intern at Hydro One and a Project Coordination Intern in Grid Innovation at the Alectra Green Energy and Technology Centre. She is entering her final year in the Electrical Engineering program at McMaster University. Olivia has completed sustainability courses abroad in Iceland (Renewable Energy Innovation) and Peru (Water Resource Management). She aims to specialize in power systems, with a focus on grid modernization, electrification, and sustainable infrastructure. Olivia told us she has become deeply committed to grid modernization through renewables, energy storage, demand response and electrified transportation.
On behalf of Ontario Energy Network, our members, sponsors and supporters,
congratulations to all of our 2025 OEN Scholarship Program winners. We wish all of them the best as they continue their studies in the coming school year!
Watch for our 2026 OEN Scholarship Program in the first quarter of next year.
