Biography

Nicolle Butcher is the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ontario Power Generation (OPG), where she provides strategic leadership and guides the organization’s growth and long-term vision.

Among her priorities, Nicolle is focused on executing the development of the G7’s first fleet of Small Modular Reactors, advancing the completion of the Pickering Refurbishment and OPG’s fleet-wide program of hydroelectric refurbishments. She is also focused on pursuing opportunities for new generation development, including new nuclear generation at Wesleyville, to meet the province’s quickly growing demand for electricity. Nicolle is also a champion for Indigenous economic reconciliation and working with Indigenous communities, companies, and businesses to achieve OPG’s Reconciliation Action Plan commitments.

Recently, under Nicolle’s leadership, OPG’s Darlington Refurbishment project was completed 4 months ahead of schedule and $150 million under budget, demonstrating OPG’s ability to deliver complex, large-scale nuclear projects safely and efficiently.

Previously, as OPG’s Chief Operations Officer, Nicolle was responsible for overseeing one of the largest, most diverse generating portfolios in North America. Over her 25-plus years with OPG, she has held a range of roles throughout the company as well as senior-level positions in Corporate Business Development and Strategy, Renewable Generation, and the energy-related commercial business functions such as energy trading, commercial contracting, and market affairs.

Nicolle specializes in creating an inclusive business culture that embraces safety, performance, and operational excellence, while fostering innovation across the businesses, including the production of critical nuclear isotopes that help save lives and improve the quality of life in Ontario and around the world.

In 2021, Nicolle was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women and Women of the Year by WIRE (Women in Renewable Energy) and APPRO (Association of Power Producers of Ontario). She sits on the Board of Directors of Interfor Corporation. Nicolle holds an MBA from McGill University, is a Chartered Business Valuator, and has earned an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

As a wife and mother of two boys, and Jasper the Labradoodle, Nicolle enjoys hiking and family time at the cottage.
