OEN 2019 Scholarship Winners

The Ontario Energy Network is pleased to announce the recipients of our 2019 scholarships. Our winners are both outstanding young people that have already spent some time working in the energy sector. Emily Sherret, a third-year Energy Systems Engineering Technology student at Centennial College, is the winner of our 2019 OEN Women in Energy Scholarship. Andrew Klett. A third-year Electrical Engineering Technology student at Georgian College, has been awarded the 2019 OEN Sustainable Development Scholarship. Both winners have been invited to one of our fall networking luncheons, where we can publicly recognize them for their achievements.

Emily Sherret – 2019 OEN Women in Energy Scholarship

The winner of the 2019 OEN Women in Energy Scholarship, Emily Sherret, is a third-year student in Energy Systems Engineering Technology at Centennial College, where she has an average of 85%+.

Emily has worked as a Technical Assistant with Glenergy Canada, a solar energy company in Petawawa. Emily has volunteered with Live Green Toronto and herVOLUTION, a committee that plans summer programs for girls interested in STEM (Science, Technology and Math). She recently had the opportunity to travel to France for three weeks to study energy efficiency and renewable technologies.

With a full year co-op placement coming in January of 2020, Emily will graduate in 2021 and is interested in a career in the environmental or electrical fields.

Andrew Klett – 2019 Sustainable Development Scholarship

The winner of the 2019 OEN Sustainable Development Scholarship is Andrew Klett, a third-year Electrical Engineering Technology student at Georgian College with an academic average of over 85%.

Andrew worked for a number of years as a Lock Operator for Parks Canada, and it was at one of the lock sites that an interest in hydroelectric generation was sparked.  Andrew has since worked for Orillia Power generation for two co-op placements and as a part-time employee.

Andrew Klett is a strong supporter of hydroelectric generation as an important and sustainable source of renewable energy for future generations, in particular his one-year old daughter.
